« Le grand six pieds » (The six-foot giant)

A larger-than-life installation

A unique mythological world

This legendary character, created in 1960 by Quebec singer-songwriter Claude Gauthier, is a lumberjack statue by talented sculptor Roger Langevin whose monument sits at the heart of one of the 'Circuit des Légendes (or Trail of Legends)' sites.

The trail features nine original legends inspired by Quebec public figures from a range of fields, including Bernard Assiniwi, Francine Ouellette and Hélène Pedneault.

From colonization to tourism

From the tale of a malevolent fisherman to the fable of a great black train that collects the souls of criminals, the municipality of Lac-Saguay invites you to discover a unique mythological world in the heart of the Upper Laurentians.

Displayed on panels, the legends give a sense of fantasy to sites already rich in cultural, heritage and environmental values of a municipality in the heart of a vast hunting and fishing territory. The area became a hub for settlement when a sawmill was built and when rail service was extended to Mont-Laurier in 1909. Tourism partly accounts for the fact that its population has boomed since the 1950s.
