Wilfrid-Gratton General Store

1965, chemin du Village

House with a gable façade

A colonial house, whose first recorded owner was Barnabé Leblanc, was sold to Wilfrid Gratton and his wife in 1930 for the sum of $800. They turned the house into a general store on the ground floor, with the family home on the floor above.

A special feature of the house: When turning the house into a general store, Roméo Millette and his son, Arthur, having built most of the homes in Saint-Adolphe-d’Howard, renovated the roof. What is particular about this renovation is that the upstairs floor was attached to the roof by an anchor system so that there wouldn’t be any columns or beams holding up the ceiling of the bottom floor in the general store. The house has since become a restaurant.
