Around 1765, several Acadians settled there.
The first municipality, named Kakonna, was established in 1845, then abolished in 1847.
In 1855, the municipality of the parish of "Saint-Georges-de-Kakouna" was created, which later became Cacouna.
Today, a major deep-water port, the port of Gros-Cacouna, is a significant asset for the future development of the region.
