Jean Alary Theatre

An Institution

Here we are in front of the main theatre of Carcassonne. The Jean Alary Theatre was built in 1933 at the location of an ancient theatre, also installed in the ancient Church of the Jacobins since 1797.

Italian-style Hall

In 1874, its owner donated it to the city which proceeded with its expansion and its redevelopment. However, the theatre turned out to be inadequate for audience development and safety standards. In 1930, the decision was made to rebuild a theatre at the same location.

Formerly known as the Théâtre Municipal de Carcassonne, it was renamed in 1979 in honor of Jean Alary, a French actor and theatre director native of Carcassonne.
