Fine Arts Museum

The Former Courthouse Became a Museum

The Fine Arts Museum of Carcassonne is in the former Courthouse. The 17th-century building was entirely renovated to welcome the museum’s collections.

About

The museum owns a collection of works of art dating from the Middle Ages to the 20th century, with a strong representation of French art from the 19th and the 20th centuries. The works exhibited include paintings, sculptures, drawings, and prints.

Among the artists represented you will find names such as Gustave Courbet, Edgar Degas, Auguste Rodin, Maurice Utrillo, and Camille Claudel.

Themed Rooms

The museum is organized into several themed rooms, such as religious art, 19th-century art, and contemporary art. It also offers regular temporary exhibitions that present artists and specific themes.

In addition to its permanent collection and its temporary exhibitions, the Fine Arts Museum of Carcassonne also offers educational and cultural activities for visitors of all ages, such as guided tours, children's workshops, and conferences.
