Champlain

One of the oldest settlements in Quebec

Located on the banks of the Saint Lawrence along the Chemin du Roy, the first road in New France (opened in 1737), Champlain is one of the oldest settlements in Quebec. It is named after the surname of the founder of New France, Samuel de Champlain.

More than 200 buildings of heritage interest

Since the 19th century, Champlain has also been a vacation spot. From the shoreline, you can admire the large ships passing by. There is a pier with a lookout where you can have a picnic.

The village offers more than 200 buildings of heritage interest, including the imposing church, classified as a historical monument, which contains some paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries.

The area surrounding the church features beautiful architectural specimens. The municipality even had the electrical wires buried there. The Chartier House, dating from 1835, once served as a postal relay between Trois-Rivières and Quebec City.
