Saint-Marc-sur-Richelieu

Since 1980

The official name of Saint-Marc-sur-Richelieu was adopted in 1980. This name replaced the designation of Saint-Marc-de-Cournoyer, which had been used since 1855, the date of the incorporation of the seigneury of Cournoyer. The first fief granted in the name of Louis XIV to Jacques Hertel de Cournoyer dates back to March 1, 1695.

The fertile soil rests on a bluish clay subsoil. There are underground layers of saltwater from the ancient Champlain Sea and also a bit of oil.

Today, it is a prosperous village offering visitors the opportunity to discover and appreciate an abundant built heritage in a calm and always bucolic landscape.
