Notre-Dame-du-Portage enjoys an exceptional geographical location. The municipality is part of the Marine Stops Network of the Navigators' Route, with the site of Parc de l’Anse du Portage being one of the pilot stations.

Notre-Dame-du-Portage is part of the regional county municipality of Rivière-du-Loup (Bas-Saint-Laurent region in Eastern Quebec). Located on the banks of the Saint Lawrence River, it is a renowned vacation destination.

Inns and bed-and-breakfasts line the River and Mountain roads, welcoming tourists eager for salty air, relaxation, and sunsets.

The Church of Notre-Dame-du-Portage, built in 1859, is located at 531 Route du Fleuve. In 1889, its bell tower was equipped with a carillon of three bells made by Maison Havard of Villedieu in France. Its cemetery, nestled between the church and the banks of the Saint Lawrence River, is one of the most beautiful in the region.

The arched openings of the church, along with its cornices, reflect the neoclassical styles popular at the time. Visits to the church's interior are possible during the summer season.
