Calixa-Lavallée is named after a musician born here in 1842, the composer of Canada's national anthem.
The locality once belonged to the Seigneurie de Verchères, owned by François Jarret, Sieur de Verchères in 1672.
Located in the rich agricultural plain on the south shore of Montreal, Calixa-Lavallée reminds us of the era of land settlement in New France from the 17th to the 19th century. There are remnants of several old seigneuries historically focused on agriculture.
The Beauce row features an exceptional concentration of very well-preserved 18th-century stone houses. As for the parish cluster, it serves as an important hub around which the community's life has been structured.
