Multi-gabled house

126, 3e rue

Built in 1937, this house features a combination of architectural styles. Its numerous gables with projecting cornices, sloping gable dormers, and its corbelled canopies are features that characterize the Craftsman bungalow style. Its imposing scale is reminiscent of the Arts et Métiers style, which seeks out the rustic forms of yesteryear. Its landscaping and that of the street reinforce the urban-rural character of the neighborhood.

Historical Significance

Due to its age, the house was built three years after the start of residential development in Noranda. The combined Craftsman bungalow and Arts et Métiers style is very well executed here. This house has stood the test of time, retaining its original shape and openings, a rarity among the city's listed buildings.

What sets it apart

This house stands out in the neighborhood, starting with its large scale, which makes it a striking presence on the street. Also, take a look at the cornice returns on its numerous gabled dormers. Cornice returns are sections that are cut off and wrap around the corner of a wall, or in a gable wall, turn back to form the start of a pediment.
