Kinzu is a character created by the artist Gabrielle Laïla Tittley, also known as Pony. The work addresses grief and is inspired by kintsugi, a Japanese art that reveals the beauty of broken objects by repairing their cracks, a philosophy that encourages honoring our imperfections rather than hiding them.
In this scene, Kinzu looks at the ground, which has become almost a reflection of himself: cracked, marked by time and trials. Yet, where everything seems broken, a flower emerges.
Evocation
The work evokes resilience, healing, and reconstruction. It is deeply personal for the artist, who grew up in Pointe-Gatineau in a context where challenges sometimes made it difficult to simply dream.
Kinzu reminds us that even in the most barren environments, a form of beauty persists, and that hope, when it remains, can become indestructible.
