Orphanage

In 1894, construction work on the agricultural orphanage of Huberdeau began. Subsequently, the orphanage was acquired by the Brothers of Mercy and welcomed troubled youth from 1924 to 1975. Agriculture was at the heart of the intervention approach. (Photo: BAnQ).

In 1975, the religious institution sold the orphanage to the Réseau des Affaires Sociale and the building continued to house wayward young people. Le Centre jeunesse des Laurentides, known as the Accueil Vert-Pré de Huberdeau, is still operating as a youth shelter today (source: Bergeron-Gagnon Inc., heritage inventory of the Laurentides RMC, 2013).
